“My name is James Donnelly, Jr. and I am originally from Boston, Massachusetts. I am a diehard sports fan as many of us are. I’ve worked with the public primarily in the sales service industry for the better part of my career.
I showed ambition at a young age, delivering newspapers on my bike even in wintery conditions to then becoming a dishwasher, a bus boy, and then I moved on to retail sales. I worked my first corporate job selling copiers in the financial district of downtown Boston and enjoyed working with CEO’s and CFO’s and from there, I went into the auto industry. I wore many hats in that field.
I went from sales to finance manager and from sales manager to general manager.
I came to California to move in a completely different direction professionally as I found I had a passion for acting. I was enjoying much success, but unfortunately learned that my Mom had been diagnosed with cancer. At that point, I moved back to Boston to be near my family. Sadly, she passed away and then in a terrible twist of fate, almost immediately after, my Dad was diagnosed with cancer as well. He died a few years later after battling.
Following that loss, I then packed up and moved back to California to continue with my acting career.
I also started bartending at the Greek Theatre, but things have come full circle as I’ve found my way back into sales. I began selling a payroll service and I learned the business very quickly. This is a very competitive market that the majority of businesses use. My sales journey has taught me a great deal about what clients would want, need, and prefer.
Starting my own company came to mind as I wanted to create a business that would allow me to cater to all of a client’s needs under one roof, while providing impeccable service with lifelong pricing. We decided on the name Top Dog as my wife and I are animal lovers and passionate about dogs in particular.
We own boxers, and the boxer breed is known for being loyal, steadfast, and dedicated. We wanted a company name that would represent those traits.
